Curriculum and Honor Code
The Office of Academic Standards, Core Curriculum, and Moreau Program provide the foundation for a holistic education at Notre Dame by encouraging excellence, rigor, and integrity. These common experiences, shared by all members of the intellectual community, inform and transform students as they learn how to think, lead, and live with purpose.
The Office of Academic Standards
The Office of Academic Standards oversees and organizes the procedures surrounding the Undergraduate Academic Code of Honor. Its primary responsibilities are to: manage intake, investigation, and adjudication of alleged Honor Code violations reported by faculty, students, and staff; chair the University Committee on the Honor Code and update Honor Code policies as needed in concert with Academic Council; provide support for faculty who are navigating violations in their courses; and counsel and advise students who are in violation of the Honor Code to prevent further violations.
Core Curriculum
Central to undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame is the Core Curriculum, a set of requirements that applies to all students, regardless of major. The Core's “ways of knowing” model exposes students to diverse modes of thought for approaching, analyzing, and understanding different aspects of our lives and our world. Each course forms a complementary part of the larger whole, bringing individual students closer to attaining the intellectual capacities and practices that fulfill the overall goals of a Notre Dame education.
Moreau Program
The Moreau Program is a unique, institution-wide initiative that integrates academic rigor with personal growth, bringing together the Notre Dame community in the shared endeavor to study and practice living well. Anchored by two one-credit seminars and complemented by various co-curricular experiences, the Moreau Program provides all students the opportunity to reflect communally on a life well-lived in a manner that informs and coheres the various aspects of their lives at and beyond Notre Dame.
